What are Hot Flashes?

Hot flashes are a symptom of the changing hormone levels that are considered to be a symptom of menopause. It refers to a fast-spreading sensation of warmth through the face, neck, and shoulders due to vasodilation of the blood vessels in the skin.

What causes Hot Flashes?

Hot flashes are mostly caused by the hormonal changes of menopause. They can also occur in men, as a result from a disorder such as carcinoid syndrome. Hot flashes can also develop as a side effect of some medications.

How are Hot Flashes treated?

There are a variety of treatments for hot flashes such as hormone therapy, bioidentical hormone therapy, other drug treatments, complementary and alternative treatments, phytoestrogens, black cohosh, and other alternative therapies.
