What is Strep Throat?
Streptococcal pharyngitis, more commonly known as strep throat, is an infection of the oral pharynx and tonsils by streptococcus, which is a type of bacterium. Strep throat can lead to severe sore throat, fever, swollen lymph nodes, white or yellow spots, and/or swollen tonsils.
What causes Strep Throat?
Strep throat is caused by streptococcus bacteria. While the bacteria is common in the throat and neck area, regular activities such as sneezing, coughing, or shaking hands can spread the infection to other people and cause infections.
