Erectile dysfunction, or ‘ED’, refers to male impotence. It is a sexual dysfunction characterized by the inability to develop or maintain an erection of the penis in order to perform sexual activity.
What causes Erectile Dysfunction?
Erectile dysfunction occurs when an insufficient amount of blood flow to the penis. Factors that contribute to erectile dysfunction include: diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, certain medications, smoking, and poor general health.
How is Erectile Dysfunction treated?
There are new medications, both orally taken and injected, which can reverse ED. There are also more invasive treatments, from vacuum devices, surgical implants, and in rare cases, surgery involving veins and arteries.
