Why Bowel Cleansing?
Proponents of bowel cleansing claim that bowel cleansing rids your body of toxins. Improved overall health is achieved since these toxins cause a wide range of symptoms, such as:
- Fatigue
- Headache
- Weight gain
- Low energy
Colon cleansing’s real effect has less to do with toxins than with its impact on the nervous system. What’s the evidence? Reflexes in the bowel affect the entire nervous system. In fact, a wide range of symptoms caused by constipation can be relieved by enemas. If this is true of enemas, then perhaps colon cleansing has a similar effect.
Should You Consider Bowel Cleansing?
Avoid colon irrigations, if you have:
- Diverticulitis
- Ulcerative colitis
- Crohn’s disease
- Severe hemorrhoids
- Tumors in your rectum or colon
- Recent bowel surgery
- Heart disease or kidney disease, unless approved by your health care provider
