What is Fibromyalgia?
Fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) is a chronic pain disorder characterized by widespread pain of the muscles and bones, stiffness, abdominal pain, insomnia, general fatigue, and incontinence. Sufferers complain of “knots,” known to physicians as “trigger points”, which create muscle spasm and tightness.
What causes Fibromyalgia?
While fibromyalgia is not easily understood, it is the most common arthritis-related illness after osteoarthritis. Other contributing factors include insomnia, immune system disorders, infection, food allergies, and stress.
How is Fibromyalgia treated?
Many different types of traditional and alternative treatments has been shown to be effective in treating fibromyalgia syndrome. A treatment program may include a combination of medications, physical exercise, and behavioral techniques.
